Spend over $150 and you will get an additional 20% off your final bill at Ralph Lauren Factory stores this includes the store at the Las Vegas Premium Outlets. I stock up on al of my clothes when I am in the States as its far cheaper than in the UK RL Oxford shirts in the UK are around £60 ($90) in the factory stores they are around $30 before any special promotions. As well as Ralph Lauren there are manyother great shops at the Las Vegas Premium Outlets including Calvin Kline, Timberland, Nautica, Kenneth Cole, DKNY, Armani Exchange, COACH, Nike, Addidas and Hilfiger to name but a few. I have found the Las Vegas factory stores to be the cheapest in US and with this additional discount even more money can be saved.  To get the discount either click here or click on the Ralph Banner at the top of the page. Downtown Vegas to Groove like 1969

Forty years after the Woodstock music festival, downtown Las Vegas is looking for people who want to relive the groovy days of 1969.

The Fremont Street Experience is paying tribute to 1969 all summer with free rock concerts, plenty of tie-dye T-shirts and peace symbols to trigger memories of a year many people say resonates with them to this day.

The bands expected were heavy hitters in the day — Blood, Sweat and Tears, Three Dog Night, the 5th Dimension, Rare Earth, the Grass Roots and Canned Heat.

Organizers have hired John Van Hamersveld — an artist recognizable for his movie artwork for “The Endless Summer” in 1966 and for the cover of the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour” album in 1967 — to paint two buses, one to be used as a stage.

Special video shows planned for a giant screen hanging over the street include a rolling-credits style memorial for the 58,000 Americans killed or missing in action from the Vietnam War.

The comprehensive promotion gives tourists an excuse to celebrate hippy sensibilities, the first astronauts walking on the moon and Woodstock.

But the 10 casinos located in the venerable section of Las Vegas are hoping the 108 days of throwback entertainment result in more visitors to help revive the city’s top industry.

“It’s coming at a time when it plays well,” said Jeff Victor, president of the Fremont Street Experience, the management company in charge of promoting the destination.

Victor said he and others felt Fremont Street didn’t do enough events during the summer.

Fremont Street Experience is spending about $1.7 million on the campaign between the Memorial Day and Labor
Fremont Street, Las Vegas Grooving Like 1969 las vegas, vegas, fremont street, casino, fuun, holiday, gaming, binons, gaming, cheap hotels, cheap vegas hotels, chows, vegas shows, free vegas

Day weekends, $500,000 more than it normally would during the season. Officials want to increase the share of Sin City visitors that go downtown, less than 3 miles north of the end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Victor said each casino is also making plans to tie to the 1969 theme.

“This economy and Las Vegas in particular requires retail opportunities for visitation, and that’s exactly what this promotion provides,” Victor said. “With people in their 50s and 60s, there is an emotional connection (to 1969).”

Forty years later, Las Vegas finds itself scrambling to reach visitors who are coming less often, spending less money on food and entertainment and not gambling as much.

Visitor volume was down 10 percent for all of Las Vegas for the first two months of this year compared with 2008, according to the latest figures available from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Casinos downtown earned $83.9 million in gambling revenue in January and February, down 17 percent from the first two months of 2008, the tourism agency said. Other casinos in the rest of the county experienced similar declines.

But a recent profile study by the tourism authority showed that 46 percent of Las Vegas visitors in 2008 spent some time downtown during their trip. That was down significantly from 57 percent in 2006, but up from 40 percent in 2007.

The 10 casinos on the Fremont Street Experience have a combined 6,600 hotel rooms — 4.7 percent of all the hotel rooms in the city.

Victor said the 1969 campaign could be first of several seasonal themes for Fremont Street — if downtown can pull it off.

“We’ll be checking to see a promotion of this duration is repeatable,” Victor said.

Wynn, Las Vegas – my review

Wynn

3131 Las Vegas Blvd Sth
Las Vegas
Nevada 89109
www.wynnlasvegas.com

Location
Wynn is the last hotel on the North on the main part of the Strip, on the site of the Desert Inn next to Palazzo and opposite the Fashion Show Mall.

Theme
It’s what Steve Wynn does best first at Golden Nugget, then at Mirage and Bellagio and now at Wynn, luxury. I guess you could say European luxury, or that is what Mr Wynn would like you to say everything is there to show opulence and to look expensive, now expense spared. If money is not the object then the objects here all cost a stack of money.

Attractions
The showpiece is the “ Lake of Dreams ” a 3 acre lake which contains loads of lights to make a full multimedia show. There is a 170ft Mountain and 5 waterfalls, the show uses the water falls as screens, there are loads of bushes and flowers around them but I was not impresses with this show. As with Bellagio there is a Conservatory but smaller but really nice, no rollercoaster’s here instead you have Wynn’s gallery which hits the mark for the more refined and concerning people who are the targets of his marketers. There is also a Ferrari garage that you have to pay $10 to enter!

Pool The pools here are nice rather like Bellagio style and quality are the order of the day rather than wave machines and waterfalls.

Rooms, All of the rooms at Wynn are called suites we stayed in a Panorama suite on the 57th floor wow what a view ! The bed was very comftable second only to the MGM Grand and all of the furnishings are top quality, the maid service comes twice a day and there is a turndown service. The bathrooms are big with a nice tub and shower as well as a TV in there, I know it is sad to watch TV in Vegas but the selection of channels at Wynn was far better than anywhere else we have stayed on the Strip. The mini bard was well stocked but very expensive and you get charged just for moving stuff !

Shows and Entertainment
The Encore Theatre is now home to amazing all rounder and Steve Wynn favourite Danny Gans. Wynn’s other show is La Reve its a Cirque De Soleil type show and like O performed in water !

Dining You would have thought that with a resort this up market that the buffet would not have featured but you would have been wrong and it is rather modestly called The Buffet (B$17.95, L£21.95 D Sun-Thur $33.95 Fri & Sat $37.95 and Weekend Brunch $28.95 and an extra $6 for Champagne to be included. I have not eaten here but despite the price the people I have spoken to who have think its excellent value but the queues can regularly be over 2 hours long. As you would expect there is a selection of other restaurants at Wynn mainly with a European flavour don’t expect a cheap meal but that does not mean that you can’t expect value. Most of the fine dining establishments are run by celebrity chefs. If you eat at the SW make sure you get a table outside and ask to have one with a good view of the show. The coffee shop at eth drugstore has fantastic coffee and great fruit salads but like everything else at Wynn it’s pricey. Zooacrackers is a great Deli with tower sandwiches and the Terrace Point Café which is open 24/7is very good again all heavy on the pocket.

Gaming
It’s big and surprisingly there are a load of slots including nickels and pennies with good pay out. There are stacks of tables and the norm minimum is $15 on BJ and other card games but most tables particularly at weekends are much higher. Craps sometimes starts as low as $10! Don’t bother asking to get rated if you are playing less than $25 per hand it’s not worth it. The players card is very good and well worth joining. If you were told you were in the Bellagio you would probably believe it.

Drinks service
Steve Wynn knows how to look after his customers even if you are on the penny slots polite waitresses come up regularly and serve you with strong drinks this is one of the best drinks services on the Strip.

Overall
The service from all the staff from the check in clerk to the valet parker to maid is the great the best you will get in Vegas. This place oozes luxury, it’s a nice treat but unless you have loads of money (and we don’t) you cant get the most out of it, that said however short lived you do feel like a star whilst you are there.

Good points
The attention to detail is amazing everything is quality and the attentiveness of the staff.

Bad points
The price everything from sodas in the shop to ice cream its expensive this is a place for rich folk. The location can be a pain it is just that little bit too far down the Strip and makes it feel and effort to go anywhere else.

Top Tip
Join the players card and ask if there are any promotions usually if you earn 50 points in your first 24 hours you get two free buffets.

Pacquia and Hatton’s in Verbal Spar pre MGM Grand Super fight

The more intriguing match may actually take place outside the ring at the MGM Grand on May 2.

While the two boxers taking part in the megafight at the Las Vegas casino have been about as cordial as possible in their dealings with the press, their trainers have exchanged verbal barbs on almost a daily basis.

A teleconference with international media members on Wednesday saw another battle in Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Sr.’s escalating war of words — this time the two former boxers took it all the way back to their days in the ring.

“I most definitely was the better fighter than Freddie Roach,” said Mayweather Sr, who trains Ricky Hatton and posted a pro record of 29-6-1 with 19 knockouts.

“I got a (fight) poster with Freddie on my undercard.”

Not to be outdone, the normally more-reserved Roach, who posted a career mark of 39-13 with 15 Kos, fired right back at Mayweather.

“You got shot and it ruined your career,” joked Roach of Mayweather, who suffered a shotgun blast to his leg.

“I fought on TV more.”

Roach — Manny Pacquiao’s trainer, who last week sent Hatton a box with weight loss pills inside, poking fun at the Brit who is known to enjoy beers and fattening foods in between training camps — may have got the best blow in when he said Roger Mayweather, not Floyd is responsible for Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s tremendous success.

“Floyd made his son but Roger made him a boxer,” Roach said.

Wasting little time, Roach hit him with another flurry, saying he wanted Mayweather Sr. to present him with his third trainer-of-the-year award.

“I want you to present me the … award this year. This is as close as you’ll get to it,” Roach said. “You’re never going to win it. Ever.”

Mayweather fired back with his trademark “Freddie the Joke Coach Roach” line.

“I’m in your head,” Mayweather said, taunting Roach.

But Roach kept his cool, briefly, replying: “I’m not fighting you, Manny is fighting Ricky.”

“I want you Freddie,” Mayweather said.

“Come get me, you know where I am,” Roach replied.

Finally Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer stepped in telling the trainers to save their fireworks for fight night.

When the trash talk did finally get back to the actual fighters, Roach said that even though Hatton is fighting at 140-pounds, a weight in which the IBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight champ has never lost at, that Pacquiao will be just as strong.

“Manny has KO’d four sparring partners out of seven. He’s looking good at this weight,” Roach said.

“Hatton will be heavier at fight time but that doesn’t make him stronger. I have the stronger fighter, I guarantee that.”

Mayweather countered that Hatton will push the action, forcing Pacquiao to fight while backing up.

“Ricky will definitely back him up. He can’t fight backing up, he’s no Muhammad Ali,” Mayweather said.

When the subject turned back to the fake gift Roach sent last week, Mayweather said, “You tried to be my friend.”

Roach replied, “I don’t want to be your friend.”

Mayweather blasted back, “You really won’t want to be my friend after May 2.”

The Venetian, Las Vegas my Review

Venetian
3355 Las Vegas Blvd South
Las Vegas
NV 81909
(+1) 702 414 1000
www.venetian.com

Location Built in the site of the legendary Sands, a place in the sun. The Venetian was the last casino North on the centre strip but now it has Wynn and then Encore to its North. It is connected to Palazzo and there is a bridge to Wynn. The location is not bad.

Theme Obvious isn’t it ?? Venice and my have they don it well you walk over the canal and into Doge’s Palace to enter the casino with a big tower that looks like it should be in Italy on your right, as you enter there are great marble floors and a ceiling that could have been done by Michangelo. The whole place is very well done with no expense spared you walk down to Canal Shops and on to St Marks Square you will only realize that you are not in Venice by the price of the coffee. There is of course a canal with authentic gondolas and the gondoliers will serenade you, you will be pleased to know that it does not smell like Venice.

Rooms, the rooms are all suites, you need to be aware that a Suite in Vegas can be and often is a big room with a seating area in Venetian all the rooms are suites and these are big rooms with a sunken seating area. The seating area is great big corner sofas and a nice table and amore with TV in. The rooms here are lovely though maybe a little dark, the bathrooms are big and have a separate tub and shower and little room with the WC in it, two sinks and lovely bitter orange toiletries. Housekeeping was not great at the Venetian when we arrive (9pm) the room had not been made up properly and we had to get housekeeping to address this which they did quickly, on two other occasions the room was not cleaned or made up properly and we had to get housekeeping to sort this out which they did.

Attractions Well I guess I have listed the main ones above however Madame Tussuards is here it may not be as big as the one in Baker Street, but good never the less and with many castings of Vegas legends it is a must. Oh time traveler is a of simulation ride, there are better ones on the Strip at Luxor. Venetian is home to Phantom of the Opera and this is performed in a theater builtsoley for this show ! Venetian is home to the Canyon ranch Spa which is up there with the best of the Spas in Las Vegas.

Shopping Good the canal shops are well themed and generally see goods of an Italian nature and like anything in the US if its imported its expensive and this is no exception. There is also a little bit added on to buy Italian goods in an Italian location !  Fashion show Mall is also just across the road if you cant get what you want here.

Dining There is no buffet here its not that sort of joint however the selection of top draw eating establishments is immense with no fewer than 13 places to fill you tummies up. There are Mexicans, Italians, Seafood, Chinese and a Steakhouse. The only place that we can afford to eat is the Café Lux this is very posh 24hr coffee shop and like everything else here it is good but priced accordingly and still half the price of its counterpart in Italy. The food court is small but has a couple of good delis however like everything else it is not cheap.

Gaming 100,000 sq ft of upper class gaming space to be honest some of the newer and louder machines do look out of place in these surroundings, to my surprise there were a fair amount of nickel machines included in the 2,500 that go right up to $500 per pull !! There are over 50 table games reportedly with minimum limits usually around of $15. The casino is lovely and has a well heeled feel to it but it does feel slightly cold. The patrons are a mix of T-shirt tourists (like ourselves) coming to look and marvel, and the well heeled well dressed but non flash guests of the hotel. Weekend nights however there are groups of 20 something’s who think that they are rock stars rolling around drunk and acting like a-holes, this ruins the place enough to make my mind up never stay there again, security do nothing about them even when reported.

Drinks Service When we were playing on the nickel machines it was not too hot however once we moved to the quarter machines this improved good service and nice drinks,
strong G & T at 10am may not be the best start to the day but at least they were willing.

Best Thing The rooms are lovely and the Grand Lux Café has great food and great service

Worst Thing The fact that drunk 20+’s seem to rule everything at the weekends and ruin it for everyone else and the resort seems to think that this is OK. Everything is expensive this does not mean it is not good value but on our budget we can’t afford to spend too much time at the Venetian

Overall This is a classy joint filled with classy things the theme is great and well thought out it feels much more like Venice than many of the other theme casinos and their respective models, however it is not up to the same levels as Wynn, Encore or Bellagio.  If you are on the Strip you must visit Venice just make sure it is not at a weekend evening.

BANK (rupt) Nightclub at Bellagio Las Vegas

truly is a terrible nightclub that does a real disservice to the greatness that is the Bellagio.  It is disappointing that one of Las Vegas’ most opulent hotels has created one of the most unappealing and least atmospheric nightspots.

Entry to Bank is expensive compared to other night spots on the strip.    The club is accessed by two escalators that send you into a moodily lit club.  If you have even seen one of the LA clubs featured on The Hills MTV show you will get the idea.  The club décor is nice but uninspiring.

The club itself is surprisingly small designed around a single dance floor.  Steps from the bars lead down past two levels of VIP seating to the dance floor.  When dancing you feel like you are in amphitheatre being inspected by the VIP tables.  The dance floor itself is rectangular with seating set into an alcove on one side.

The biggest problem with the club is that it lacks any discernible atmosphere.  Compared to JET and PURE, which bounce to happy partying folk everyone in BANK looked miserable.

On the night we visited the DJ was trying to mix Persian dance music.  Not only did the tune selection suck, the DJ couldn’t mix at all.  When a song did rouse a resemblance of life from the dance floor the tune was pulled and another terrible track dropped.  The DJ could not read the room at all, which meant at regular intervals streams of people filed off the dance floor simultaneously to visit the bar.

To its credit the bar staff are cool and friendly.  It was easy to get served and there were plenty of staff to ensure people were not waiting around.

The quicker the Bellagio produces a nightclub with the same pedigree and prestige as the hotel and casino the better.  The Bank is BANK-rupt avoid at all costs!
