Location Good North Strip location sitting in between the Mirage and the Fashion Show Mall and nearly opposite the Venetian and Wynn.

Theme Much of the fabulous pirate theme has been replaced but thank goodness not all of it. TI still has a Caribbean nautical feel even if the bars are cooler now, its just grown up a bit. TI has started to aim for the higher spending beautiful people market and the theme has had to soften accordingly. I still love it but would prefer a few more skull and crossbones and couple of Captain Jack Sparrows walking round but not quite as much as my girlfriend for some reason.

Attractions The Pirate battle has not contrary to some reports ceased but been replaced with the Sexy Sirens of TI, now this is good because it means you don’t have to suffer a load of colonials kicking the Brits arse so many times a day but not so good as the classic swashbuckler for me. Still one of the best and most popular freebies on the Strip and aimed at trendy cool 20/30/40 something dude and dudette market ! Its well worth making time to see two full sized ships battle it out on the high seas but the show itself is now pretty poor.

Pool The pool is small and its not up to par with the rest of the resort which is suprising when you think about the crowd that TI is trying to attract.

Shows and Entertainment TI has Mystere as its Cirque De Soleil performance here and in my opinion the best Cirque show in Vegas, if you go to see Mystere you don’t need to book and expensive seat just make sutra you are not at the side. The show is full of amazing acrobatics so amazing that your brain thinks your eyes are lying. TI has no lounge as such and no other shows other than Sirens.

Dining The Treasure Island Buffet (B:$12.00, L:$15.00 D:$20.00 weekends $26.00 ) is smaller than most and the food is OK but not up to the keeping of everything else in the fine establishment, they do however bring you a carafe of your chosen drink which is good as it saves you waiting for refills. Buccaneer Bay has been replaced by social house which is a pity but it’s good even if the portions are a bit on the small size. There are 6 other restaurants here including Italian, Chinese and a very posh steak house, it must be noted that all food at Treasure Island is expensive. Along with these eateries there is a very good but expensive coffee shop. Kahunaville is one exception its cheap and quite frankly not very good, we eat there once when we were hungry and their were queues everywhere else and wished we had not.

Gaming 51,152 sq ft of gaming space I was actually surprised when doing the research for this site to find out it was so small, it feels much bigger. There are 2,200 slot machines lots of them with pirate type themes where you have to line up three cannon balls to attempt to sink a boat ect, surprisingly there are loads of nickel machines here. Nearly 70 tables adorn the floor with the minimum stake being $5 but as soon as people start coming through the doors these rise. The casino has a low roof and dimmed lights but does not feel either claustrophobic or smoky. There are lots of bars scattered around and they have some of the best bar staff in Vegas all of the bars are classy and relaxed we like it here.

Drinks service The drinks themselves are good but you always seem to wait an age both for a waitress and then for the drink to arrive.

Overall This is a very well themed joint that is aiming to attract a young trendy well heeled bunch of punters, with new bars and clubs. Its not quite where it thinks it is its not Wynn, Mirage, Caesars or Bellagio and you feel that the casino thinks it is. The staff are great and the whole place really does have a good feel Hosting one of the best free shows on the Strip adds to the attraction of this casino. Its worth noting that this is the only place in Vegas and maybe the World where you can get married on a pirate ship

Good points Mystere possibly the best show in town, but the bars come a close second

Bad points The crush of trying to get in through the front door whilst the sirens of TI is going on, and the general cost of food and drinks. Oh and it has justbeen sold to Phill Ruffin who used toown the New Frontier so who knows what will happen next ?

Top Tip If you are staying at TI, when the Sirens show is on there is revered standing area for, just show security your room key.

$20 Upgrade Trick an Update, Las Vegas

Since I first published the $20 ugrade trick on my website I have had a quite a few emails from both people who have thanked me saying the $20 upgrade trick this has worked and others almost blaming me because it has not and they have had to end up staying in the room that they have paid for – how terrible. More recently I have been reading on other sites and blogs people saying that the $20 upgrade trick does not really work and how it’s just a waste of time and you get the same result just for being friendly and polite. Some people have even said that it annoys the check in clerks and if you try it they put you in a basement room with no windows with the Brady bunch in the room next to you.

So I thought it time that I wrote another post on this very popular subject and make it clear what I know either through personal experience or that of friends rather than say what I think (but without trying it) which it seems many people are keen to do on chat rooms and forums. You will see below the hotels in Las Vegas where the $20 upgrade trick has worked.

I have had success at many resorts in actually getting a room above the standard to what I had paid for, even if you don’t get the upgrade by tipping the clerk will generally put in more effort to accommodate your preferences with a room on the same level, lets face it not all rooms are equal. As well as these successes I have had some failures but in each instance the clerk has handed me my tip back. I have a standard room booked for Xmas and you bet that I will be trying this then Its worth noting that staff at MGM Grand, Las Vegas and Mandalay Bay have been told that they face disciplinary action if they are found to be taking “bribes” for room upgrades this does not mean that they will not be happy to take them nor does it mean that they will not get you a nicer room on the same level that you have paid for but it does mean that you are less likely to get an upgrade to higher level of room or suite than you have booked.

This Las Vegas trick can work at any hotel and is worth a shot the worst that can happen is you get what you have paid for.

1.Before you leave home make sure you know what the levels of rooms are at the resort so you know what you are being offered and if it is something that you want.

2.Before you get to the check in desk place a folded $20/$50/$100 note between your credit card and your ID and ask the clerk if there are any complimentary upgrades available for the period that you are there.

3.Try to look for a youngish clerk as your odds are usually better with them than an older one and one at the end of the check in desk so that they are not overheard and be discreet. A young and friendly looking will
improve your chance of success.

4.You generally have more chance of success if your room is booked directly with the hotel rather than through a consolidator. You can book directly here for the best price using the best codes on the web

The most important thing is to make sure that you will be happy if the $20 Upgrade trick does not work that you will be happy in the accommodation that you have booked.

This is the classic Las Vegas wedding and what most people will think of when you tell them you are marrying in Las Vegas. These chapels are used solely for weddings and renewal of vows not for your usual Sunday service. There are wedding chapels at both ends of the strip but the majority are at the North end of the strip, I would like to say that they come in all shapes and sizes but most of them look like a small version of a classic church. These are the places where you can have al sorts of theme weddings really anything goes from Star Trek and Star Wars, to Wild West Weddings even to gothic vampire weddings ! You can be married by Elvis, Count Dracula and even King Arthur. You can of course (and most people do) have a traditional wedding with the Bride wearing a wedding dress and the Groom a suit. each chapel will have a variety of packages with the basic ones which can start from as little as $100, yes one hundred dollars but be warned though that the basic packages often do not allow you to bring guests. For around $500 you should expect music of your choice, flowers, a limo to collect the bride from her hotel, a photographer and some sort of souvenir the quality of which varies greatly. Most also offer a web streaming facility usually for an extra charge. Just like the quality of he chapels themselves the quality and the prices of the packages vary greatly. Unlike the Resort wedding chapels you may not have an area other than outside to wait before the ceremony and you may have to walk down the aisle together! Some of the chapels do not allow you take your own photos or videos.

Lake Las Vegas Lake Las Vegas is 17 miles from the Strip but could be a world away. It’s a beautiful lake in the middle of the desert with a Tuscan styled village on its shores, golf greens to the waters edge and mountains in the background it is truly stunning. Red Rock Canyon 17 Miles west of the strip lies the beautiful Red Rock Canyon a beautiful National Park that looks like no other place I have ever seen on earth. Most of the chapels do packages to get married in Red Rock canyon generally starting at round around the $800 mark. You need a park permit needed to get married in Red Rock Canyon, this costs $180 and is usually included in the package costs but it would be wise to check. Its usually about 3 hours form when you leave your hotel to when you return if you go by limo and unless you hire a second limo you can generally only take 6 guests. Its worth remembering that the ceremony will be held outside in a beautiful setting but also remember that means no air con and no lights, its best to get married at sunrise or sunset. Remember that you will have been sitting for some time in the limo to get there which may mean you clothes get creased and your makeup and hair will have been done back at the hotel.

The Grand Canyon, anyone who has been to the Grand Canyon will not be able to explain well enough its beauty, awe and magic. It really is a place that you have to see to believe and when you do you will wonder if the other 6 of the 7 wonders of the World are as good as this. The majority of people who go to see The Grand Canyon go to the South Rim where there are a number of hotels and some of the best views across the canyon, this is a good four hour drive out of Vegas. If you are getting married in the Grand Canyon chances are that you will be flown out there in a helicopter the flight is wonderful but think about this when you are choosing what to wear as helicopters do not give you much room. Usually you will land in the canyon for your ceremony like Red Rock remember no air con and no toilets! You are also very limited in the number of guests that you can bring and you usually can’t hire a second helicopter to bring more people down. Most of the Chapels offer wedding ceremonies in the Grand Canyon and they tend start at around $2500.
