Vegas Uncovered a guide to the Las Vegas Strip

Lamborghini car showroom and luxury store opens at Palazzo, Las Vegas

If your wallet is big or your slot drops in the three Elvis’s there is yet another luxury location to assist you in leaving large amounts of cash back in the desert.

Not to be outdone by Wynn’s Ferrari dealer ship new kid on the block Palazzo, Las Vegas pulled back the curtains on the newest Lamborghini showroom in the World on Saturday. Inside 20,000 square foot two story super car showroom is the first Collezione Automobili Lamborghini fashion boutique in the World, selling all types of fashion items and gifts branded with the famous Lamborghini crest. If buying fast Italian Super cars and high quality fashion goods is not enough you can feast yourself on fine Italian food at the up market Dal Toro restaurant.

“The opening of the first Collezione Automobili boutique brings a new level of luxury to Las Vegas that epitomizes the Lamborghini lifestyle,” stated Lamborghini’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann,. “Lamborghini super sports cars and fine Italian fashion go hand-in-hand. We are pleased to offer this unique experience at Lamborghini’s newest showroom.”

I am pleased to say that this will give me the opportunity to go to a Lamborghini showroom and make a purchase sadly though at best it will be a baseball hat

My Review of Caesars Palace Las Vegas

Caesars PalaceCaesars

3570 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Las Vegas
NV 89109
+1 (702) 731 7110

Location Dead centre Strip; this is the marker for other casino’s location. The only problem is that when Caesars was built no one walked on the Strip; all travel was done by car. As a result the casino entrance is about 500 yards back from the Strip. Don’t worry though the good folks at Caesars have put in a series of moving walkways to get you to their machines quicker.

Theme It’s Rome, ancient Rome from the spectacular fountains, delightful statues and cypress trees that you pass on your way to the casino to the toga costumes the staff wear. This certainly is ancient Rome with electricity and air conditioning. It is a very Grand Rome with loads of marble and gold, everything that can be gold and glittery is gold and glittery. The theme like most of Vegas is completely over the top; but in the best possible way. If there was a casino themed on Las Vegas, Caesars would be it. Las Vegas at its best.

Attractions Well there are the wonderful, if slightly dated magical statues in the Forum shops these are robotic statues that come alive with the aid of smoke and lights and act out Roman and mystical type tales; free and great for the kids. The race for Atlantis IMAX 3d simulation ride, the Omnimax movie theatre where the film actually seems to surround you and several amusements arcades. To be fair the whole of the forum shops could be counted as an attraction with plenty to see. For the older children the Pussy Cat Dolls casino has dealers in their underwear and dancers wearing little more strutting their stuff between the tables. The shopping at the Forum Shops is arguably the best in Vegas this really is an attraction on its own.

Pool The pools at Caesars are great posh and posher with many beautiful people around them. One of the pools allows “European” sunbathing which means topless and apparently is a big deal in the USA.

Shows and Entertainment Caesars generally have some of the biggest headliners in town Celine Dione made Caesars her home for many years whilst Elton John filled in for her holidays. Caesars is going through a bit of a transitional stage at the moment where Bette Midler and Cher are the two house acts it will be interesting to see where this goes

Dining La Piazza Food Court is my favourite on the Strip; you enter together, you chose your different food Caesars Outside(Pizza, Salads, Hot Dogs, Chinese etc) get your drinks together and pay together. No queuing up separately just because one of you wants Pasta and the other Chinese. The seating area is lovely, on the edge of the casino allowing you to see the action, sort of inside the branches of a big tree. There is a very small buffet with very long queues and quite high prices (B$15.50 L$17.50 D$23.50, Sunday Brunch $23.50 or $33.50 with champagne) which I have not tried. There are several other high quality restaurants including Hyakumi – Japanese, Bacchanal – a six course Roman feast and Café Roma the 24hr coffee shop. General reports of food at these restaurants are good.

Gaming Caesars has a colossus of gaming space in fact over 118,000 sq ft containing over 2000 slot and video machines, over 70 tables and 13 roulette wheels. Surprisingly there is a very good range of nickel machines here, table limits can be a low $5 minimum but this is only ever one or two tables and only when trade is slow. The layout of the casino is very odd; it seems bitty; like some bits were added on rather as a second thought. Parts of the casino are very dark and others very light. The way in which the floors are arranged makes you very disorientated. I am not sure if this is deliberate or not, but this, along with the expedition back to the Strip does seem to make you stay longer than planned.

Drinks service I found the drink service to be quite good, although I think that depends on where you sit as there are many nooks and crannies which probably do not receive such good service. I always make sure that any cocktail waitress who passes within 20 foot of me knows I want a drink and this obviously helps a great deal.

Overall If you ask anyone to name a casino (with possibly the exception of Bob Stupak and Steve Wynn)Bellagio they will say Caesars Palace. Caesars is Vegas and Vegas is Caesars. You get a chance to see “whales” (high rollers) at play and yet still feel like you are a million dollars putting your nickels into the slots. If you are in Vegas and you can only go to one casino, this has to be it, you will not be disappointed.

Good points Just the whole over the top “we have got it and boy are we going to flaunt it” atmosphere. The forum shops are the best set of shops in Strip the $20 upgrade trick seems to work well here.

Bad points The casino does not feel like one building and the layout can make navigating the casino confusing, you also experience bottle necks and it gets very crowded. Caesars is not quite up to the levelof Bellagio or Wynn but it does seem to think it is.

Top Tip Allow plnety of time to get around Caesars is the easiset resort on the Strip toget lost in this along with being the most crowded means that everything takes longer than it should

Las Vegas and touring the West

Grand CanyonI thought that I would publish this answer I gave to one lady on all as it may help someone else – cheers Simon

Question: I have three children from 9 to 18 in age. I would like to fly to Vegas stay in a hotel where the kids can enjoy a great pool with slides, etc. Also, I would like to go and see the Canyons, etc. I have tried researching hotels to drive to in UT, but they weren’t available. This would be in June. Can you suggest a sightseeing option or itnerary? This would probably be a 7 day trip. Thanks.

June is a good time to go to Vegas hot but not too hot but it can get a bit crowded as you may or may not be aware room rates in Vegas go up hugely at weekends so your room that costs say $90 on Thursday night could cost $200 on Friday or Saturday night with that in mind you may wish to try to avoid staying in Vegas over the weekend.

I am not sure that any pools have any decent slides, I know that there is a small one at Mirage but that is certainly not a resort that I would recommend to take Children to as there is nothing aimed at them.

The two normal choices for taking children to is Circus Cirucs and Excalibur but both have very poor and boring pools, Circus Circus though has an indoor theme park that represents good value and an arcade but the hotel itself has seen much better days and it’s a long way down the Strip whilst the walk to the other resorts is not dangerous at night it can feel lonely and dark I would not advise anyone to stay there. Excalibur again has a concrete block with a hole in it that they fill up with water and call a pool (they are meant to be updating this)ah a quick check shows that they have updated this but I cant imagine that its allMGM Pool that as the area they were putting it was not very big. Excalibur does have the Tournament of Kings which is great for kids and also a Midway section that caters for them. My personal choice with a family would be MGM Grand the pools are great OK there are no slides but there is a huge lazy river and raft hire, there are the lions to look at and there is an arcade as well as screening rooms for new TV shows (which is free). I am making the assumption that you are all sharing a room and with the MGM offering some of the largest standard rooms in Vegas they also allow rollways so you will be able to get at least 3 beds in there maybe even 4. The other advantage of the MGM is that its just across the way to Excalibur so you can use all of the child friendly stuff there and walk to Luxor (without going outside) where there is floor with simulators and amusements for kids. Please don’t get me wrong Vegas is not aiming at kids and whilst what I list above seems that these are in abundance they are not either as large or as varied as say reports in Florida. Luxor could work its exciting for kids to stay in a pyramid the pool is OK its quite big but has no slides or anything, but you have direct access to the floor mentioned above and easy access to the Excalibur, MGM and NYNY.

I am not sure how long you want to stay in Vegas and how long on the road so this is really more of a guess if you want something more in-depth please let me know you thoughts.

Well for me the Grand Canyon is the biggest must see close to Vegas forget the West Rim and the Sky Walk, Route 66South Rim is where you want to be I made it last time in a bout 4.5hours but I drive fast I think its worth staying the night there so you and the kids can experience sunset and sunrise, there are a group of motels at the entrance to the park but we always stay on the Rim it seems daft to come all this way and then not be as close as possible this is the official link to the lodging in the park . My suggestion here would be to leave Vegas in the morning and take a lazy drive you can stop at Hoover Dam and or Laughlin if you like and travel back in time along the old Route 66 we have done it before where we drive out in the morning stop at Hoover Dam (there is a hotel just before where you can take real cheap helicopter rides over the Dam and Lake Powell then drive on to the GC watch the Sun go down, watch it rise in the morning and drive back as far as Laughlin and stay the night there and back to Vegas in the morning. Whilst in Vegas you can make easy day or half day trips to Mount Charleston or Valley of Fire, you can also do Red Rock canyon but I was disappointed doing that.

My parents did a road trip for a week last year from Vegas – Mesquite – Page – Kingham – Laughlin but they found it a bit much and wished that they had just stayed in Vegas.

Cheers and have a good trip

World Series of Poker Final Date Moved

4 KingsThe final nine players in the World Series of Poker main event will compete for the tournament title on Nov. 9-10 at the Rio instead of the originally scheduled date of July 16, a move designed to create more excitement around the final table.

The rest of the World Series of Poker schedule will remain the same, World Series commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said today. The 39th annual World Series will begin May 30 with the $10,000-entry main event starting July 3 and the final table determined July 14.

The nine players who advance to the final table will then take a break of 117 days before resuming the tournament Nov. 9, when they will play down to two players. The final two will go head-to-head on the evening of Nov. 10 to determine the winner.

ESPN will edit the two-day final table action and televise it in a two-hour program on Tuesday, Nov. 11, less than 24 hours after the championship has been decided.

“We want as many people as possible around the world talking about who’s going to win,” Pollack said. “If the end result is that there’s more buzz and water-cooler talk, just as there would be before the Super Bowl or the last game of the NBA Finals or the Daytona 500, then we have done a good thing for the entire game of poker.”

Each of the nine final-table players will receive ninth-place prize money on July 14 along with a trip for two for their return to Las Vegas in November, when they will compete for the remainder of the prize money, which will be held in an interest-bearing account.

ESPN will begin its coverage of the 2008 World Series of Poker on Tuesday, July 22. Viewers will see two hours of new World Series programming every Tuesday through Nov. 11, including a special preview of the final table Nov. 4.
