Vegas Uncovered a guide to the Las Vegas Strip

2 Free Las Vegas Buffets per day MGM, Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Aria etc

The MGM Mirage Group yesterday, issued a host of complementary buffet deals, if you book two nights under this offer you receive 2 complimentary buffets per booking per day. You do not have to use these in the buffet of the hotel that you are staying at  you can in fact use it at any of Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Aria, Vdara, Monte Carlo, Mirage and Circus Circus. Mirage and Mandalay Bay are my two favourite buffets on the Strip it is great that if you stay at a cheaper hotel you can still eat for free in a far more expensive hotel. These deals are available on most dates until Spetember 8th but must be booked before June 27th

All of these deals are booked directly with the hotel on the links below.  All of these offers are fully refundable up to48 hours before check in, if the rate drops after you book contact the hotel and they will adjust your rate, these deals are available for everyone over 21 and
not just selected players. It is a very good deal.

I have just noticed that this page is suddenly after a few years getting a few hits again sadly these deals are all over there are still good deals to be had the best place to find them is to go directly to the hotels themselves this gives you greater flexability and also more chance of obtaining an upgrade when you check in and if you dont book direct with the hotel it is more difficult to get comps applied against your room rates. The links below will take you directly to the hotels have a great trip.

Hatton Victory over Malignaggi in the 11th Round

Ricky Hatton coasted to a one-sided win over Paulie Malignaggi at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with his opponent’s corner stopping the fight in round 11. Malignaggi had occasional success with his jab but fought virtually one-handed for much of the fight and lacked power. Manchester’s Hatton had Malignaggi in trouble with some savage left hooks, and overhand rights.Going into the 11th, Malignaggi was behind on all three scorecards, causing his corner to throw in the towel. Hatton joined up with new trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr just seven weeks ago, but there were signs of real improvement following some worrying recent performances, as Hatton promised there would be.

Hatton, 30, improves to 45 wins (32 KOs) and one defeat, while Malignaggi falls to 25 wins (five KOs) and two defeats.

While the Grand Garden Arena was by no means full, most of the estimated 9,053 in attendance were supporting Hatton. Hatton, wearing a fat suit, was accompanied to the ring by Oasis’ Gallagher brothers, who were charged with carrying their fellow Manchester City fan’s belts. Hatton suffered his only defeat as a professional at the same venue last December, when he was stopped in 10 rounds by Floyd Mayweather Jr, making his victory doubly sweet.

“I enjoyed it better than last time I was here, that’s for sure,” said Hatton.

“I’ve just come into a new camp and I’ve been working on new things. Floyd and I have been together for seven or eight weeks and it doesn’t happen overnight.

“But I showed glimpses of what I can do. And after being with Floyd for seven weeks, I think that’s pretty impressive.”

The Las Vegas Buffet (including top tips)

Las Vegas is famous for many things gambling, shows, show girls, headliners, sports the list goes on an on and near the top is Buffetthe famous buffet. All of the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip (with the exception of NewYorkNewYork) offer a buffet this is a one price dining option where you eat as much as you like for fixed price, this includes starters, main courses, deserts and soft drinks. Buffets range in both cost and quality. Buffets started out in Vegas as a cheap way to feed the whole family and were often use as loss leaders to get people in through the casino doors and were extremely good value. Now a days you get a few cheap buffets but most are at least on a par as far as cost goes with the hotel coffee shop. Most buffets have a selection of food stations including, Italian, Mexican, carving stations and salad bars and many more. The quality generally matches the price and the cheap buffets have more stodge and cheap high carb foods to fill you up where as the more expensive ones may have more sea food or prime rib or other quality foods included. My favourite buffet by far is the Mandalay Bay dinner buffet it’s not cheap but its good value for quality food and a smashing location and setting. The worst buffet I have had was at Tropicana, too few choices and food that had been left warming for too long. The best value is either the breakfast buffet at Excalibur or a dinner buffet we had at the Hacienda near the Hoover Dan that was $3.49 for our dinner buffet!

Top 5 Buffet Tips

  1. Find out the times and arrive and pay just before the lunch buffet ends you will get the dinner food for the lunch prices.
  2. Don’t fill up on bread, pasta and potatoes they are put there so you fill up on the cheap food.
  3. Check to see if by joining the players club you can get a 2 for 1 coupon many casinos offer this the LV Hilton usually does.
  4. Take your time there is no time limit for you to be at the table of you eat slower you will enjoy it more, be less likely to get indigestion and be able to eat more!
  5. Don’t forget to leave room for desert – of you are stuffed before you have had your pudding you will be gutted!

Donnie and Marie Osmond signed to headline at the Flamingo

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Donny and Marie Osmond will perform in a variety show at the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip beginning in September.

Donnie and Marie The brother-sister duo, who starred in the “Donny & Marie” variety show in 1976, will play Tuesday-Saturday shows for 26 weeks spread over eight months at the Flamingo Showroom, a hotel official said Friday.

The 90-minute show, beginning Sept. 9, will be presented by Danny Gans and Chip Lightman of GansLight Entertainment. It is being billed as a greatest-hits multimedia spectacle on a custom stage with multiple video screens and a cast of dancers.

“My version of a variety show has been what Vegas has known thus far,” said Gans, an impressionist and comedian who has long played in Las Vegas. “What we have now is a true variety show which conveys the real essence of America and the country’s love of homegrown talent.”

Tickets, which are priced at $85, $99 and $115, go on sale Monday.

In the 1970s, Donny and Marie’s musical family, The Osmonds, shared the marquee at the old International hotel with Elvis Presley. The International is now the Las Vegas Hilton.

“Donny and Marie are timeless entertainers and cultural icons,” said Don Marrandino, president of Flamingo Las Vegas. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

The Flamingo Showroom has been dark most of this month after Toni Braxton was hospitalized April 7 with chest pain.

Braxton’s Las Vegas act, “Toni Braxton: Revealed,” is in a two-year run that ends in August at the Flamingo. Braxton is due to resume her show May 6 after canceling several shows and taking a previously scheduled two-week break.

Hatton – Mayweather and the rooms at the MGM Grand Las vegas

Hatton Mayweather

Well my hopes and predictions were wrong Ricky Hatton got knocked out in the 10th round at the MGM Grand last night in front over 300 fans with at least another 16,000 in Vegas with no tickets. Floyd Mayweather was the victor and the better fighter, Ricky was out boxed for at least 7 of the 10 rounds and Mayweather deserved the title. It was not the great spectacle of boxing that we had hoped but a great fight never the less and Hatton at least was able to joke about it being a fluke and that he had slipped afterwards and Mayweather acted the gent and I think was saying that he had accomplished everything he could and wont be fighting again where as Ricky has said he will continue. I am hoping that he fights De La Hoya in London in April. Good luck Ricky in whatever you do next.

I thought I would give you quick insight in the two basic room types at the MGM Grand Las Vegas, before I start next week on other Las Vegas topics.

MGM Tower room

You have two basic types of room at the MGM Grand Tower rooms(shwon above) and West Wing rooms. The Grand Tower rooms are bigger (in fact they are some of the biggest standard rooms on the Las Vegas Strip)and the West Wing rooms trendier but about 100sq foot smaller, the West wing beds only come with a King bed option if you need two beds you have to stay in the Grand Tower. All of the Grand Tower rooms are accessed by 4 banks of central elevators near the casino floor and check in desks when you get to your floor you will be amazed at the length of corridors they are huge. The Grand Tower rooms are great they have big windows and many have nice views the bathrooms are a good size and all have a desk and chairs, safe and a big TV and the king bed rooms have a nice sofa. The west Wing rooms are cool they have flat screen TV’s and a small flat screen TV in the bathroom so you can watch telly whilst shaving. There is only a glass wall between the toilet and the rest of the bathroom so you need to be pretty well acquainted to stay in one of these rooms.

In all MGM Grand rooms the beds and bed linen have recently been replaced the beds in MGM Grand are the most comfable that I have ever slept in all in all it’s a good place to stay.

Las Vegas, Fight Night Mayweather- Hatton

Ricky and Floyd at weigh in

In Just over 8 hours at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather will step into the ring, the talking will stop and the fighting will start. Everything that has been said and been done will mean nothing and the ability, heart, stamina and strength will be on the only things that matter. I think it’s likely that Mayweather will want to test Hatton right from the bell and Hatton will want to show his power it’s quite possible that the first 60 seconds of this fight will be the best boxing ever seen! The longer the fight goes the worse it looks for Ricky, as long as he is allowed to fight inside and rough Mayweather up its should not go too long. Ricky, we are all behind you here in the UK and out Vegas good luck and God bless you!

With the major excitement at the MGM being it the Grand Garden it might be a good time to see some of the other attractions at the MGM Grand. MGM Grand has two resident shows; KA the amazing Cirque De Soleil show which seems to be an integral part of most MGM Mirage resorts and Crazy Horse Paris the sexy topless review

KA – This is the story of two bothers one good and one evil, there is lots of fighting and like all Cirque shows great sets, costumes, music and of course acrobatics that make you pinch yourself to check that you are not dreaming. It’s funny when you read reviews on Cirque shows different people see different things some people think that this is the best and others think it the worst.

Crazy Horse Paris – This disappointed me, the theatre is amazing very small and very intimate, the stage is tiny and every seat is very close, it really does fell like a mall French theatre.  Crazy horse is meant to integrate a live show with light (originally in France it was film) it does this by beaming coloured lights over the performers. The seating is at tables and booths and there is good drinks service whilst you are spectating.

MGM Grand also has the Hollywood Theatre this is a lovely 740 seat indoor entertainment venue which usually plays host to a visiting headliner Tom Jones and David Copperfield are both regular acts here. Tom Jones of course is singing the national anthem for Hatton tonight. MGM also have the Lion Habitat this is a glass enclosure where you can see real lions play, eat and entertain through out the day. MGM has a host of bars and restaurants as well as one of the best pool complexes on the Strip but these are all another post.

My next post will hopefully be congratulating Ricky we are all behind you. Feel free to post up any messages of good luck here.

Hatton V Mayweather in Las Vegas and Circus Circus

Circus Circus

At 3pm local time today the weigh in for the Hatton – Mayweather fight will take place at the MGM Grand, its expected that Ricky Hatton will hit the 147llb mark and then he will be built up with carbs as much as he can between weigh in an fight so he will get in the ring at say 152llb. Hatton’s nutritionist has banned him form having his traditional full English breakfast the morning of the fight this time. The build up of this fight has been the usual media circus that we expect on these big events and Hatton has been referring to Mayweather as the clown with this in mind I thought I would give you a short review of one of the oldest properties on the strip Circus Circus.

Circus Circus was opened in 1968 and was the first themed casino on the Strip maybe even in the World, when it first opened you had to pay an admission charge and could only enter via a big slide crowds flocked in the thousands to see this great attraction. The crowds still flock in their thousands only now they seem to bring an army of kids with them and rather to see an amazing resort they come for cheap rooms, cheap buffets and a fair theme park. They have kept the theme and at night the main entrance looks brilliant sadly this is where my favourable thoughts on this Casino stop.

Circus Circus is the entry level hotel/casino in the MGM Mirage chain it is cheap, very cheap but that does not mean it offers value. Circus Circus is located way down the strip next to the Slots of Fun “casino” its well North of the Fashion Show Mall and any of the Casinos that you come to Vegas to visit. Now that the Frontier has gone its long boring dark walk from Circus Circus to Treasure Island. Its old and it feels worn and there are loads of kids there. The buffet is cheap it used to be described as the most popular buffet in town (they have dropped his now) the quality of the food is not good but it does probably represents value with a dinner buffet costing $11.99 ! The Gaylord Steakhouse also has its home at Circus Circus why I am not sure this regularly voted as the best steakhouse in Vegas its expensive and classy has fantastic staff and amazing food.

They have free circus acts trapeze artists ect and it should be free they look bored and any decent circus entertainer in Vegas has been snapped up by Cirque de Soleil. The Adventuredome is the indoor theme park at Circus Circus its not six flags or Alton Towers but its good and for around $25 for adults and $15 for kids for an unlimited day pass it represents very good value though a few hours is really all it needs.

The rooms here vary contrary to urban myth there are no clowns on the headboards but the manor rooms are terrible if you stay at Circus Circus do not stay in a manor room they are old tired motel styled rooms, many for some reason stink of chip fat and many reportedly have damp (I have not seen this). The tower rooms are fairly big and clean and to be fair are not that far off the rooms at Excalibur. The pool is crap I cant say anything else about it apart form worrying what hundreds of kids do when they are swimming and need the toilet avoid it at all costs. There is no monorail station within sensible walk but the deuce bus does stop right outside, but this way behind my favourite form of transport, basically if you stay here you need a car or you spend more money on cabs getting to the places you come to Vegas to see.

In a nutshell if you want a cheap base on the strip and have a car and are not fussed about having loads of kids running around then Circus Circus may suit your needs, but with a bit of shopping around you may well be able to find deals at Excalibur or Luxor for only a few dollars more and in my opinion this would be a better option. There is a place for Circus Circus but my view is that if you have paid a lot of money for a flight and saved hard for you bankroll that its not worth staying here unless there is no availability or you are making a huge saving.

My view on the Hatton fight Maywether acts the clown but is a talented boxer, Hatton is less talented but stronger and has more heart my money is on Hatton by stoppage.

Las Vegas – Hatton Mayweather fight weekend 8th December

Ricky Hatton Las VegasOn Saturday 8th December Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton will be fighting “Pretty Boy” FLoyd Mayweather for the WBC Welterweight title of the World. This fight will be taking place at the MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas of course all the tickets have sold out but most MGM Grand Properties will be offering live CCTV coverage of the fight but tickets just to watch on a screen are $100 each ! With both fighters undefeated and around 20,000 British fans flying out to Vegas this will be one of the biggest Vegas events of the year, the atmposhere will be electric and this will not be limited to just the arena all of Vegas will be buzzing, it will also be very crowded and I suspect many very drunk Englishmen.

Boxing is just one of the events that draws huge crowds to Vegas this makes everything crowded and room prices go through the roof. When planning your Vegas trip its well worth checking out what is on, if you can be flexible on your dates you can save a fortune. I have booked 3 nights at the MGM Grand from the 21st December for $247  there are no rooms available this weekend but if there were the cost for three nights would be well in excess of $1000. On big weekends such as these not only does the Strip grind to halt with traffic nose to tail from Mandalay BayCircus Circus but foot traffic through the Casinos is very busy and you tend to find that you are shuffling through the walkways and it takes and age to get anywhere. Personally I prefer the quiet weekends.

Top Tips for busy weekends in Vegas

1. Do not drive on the Strip either walk or use the monorail will save you time and frustration

2. The restuarants particually the buffets will have massive quueus, if the event is a conference eat early before the delegates come out if its boxing eact later when the fans are watching the fight

3. Allow extra time to get to any shows or dinner resevations when ist busy it can take an extra 10 minutes to get from your room to the taxi rank.

4. Dont expect to be able to use Valet parking it often fills up

5. If you at the venue of the event forget trying to get a taxi when it ends say 5pm for a conference or anytime after

Special offer until December 9th

www.restaurant.com has a 50% off sale and with each order you get a $10 gift certificate. The code to use is SNOW. The email I received states that the code for your free $10 Gift Certificate will be emailed to you within 24 hours. The offer ends December 9, 2007. There are a lot of Las Vegas restauarnts on the list so this might be useful to somone.

Las Vegas $20 free room upgrade trick

In Vegas the room prices vary greatly not only from hotel to hotel but also on day of the week or time of the year, a room that costs $60 on a Wednesday night can quite easily cost $180 for the Saturday or double that on a fight weekend. Now I do not want to pay a penny more than I have to at any time and I will show you how to ensure that you are paying the cheapest price that you can hope to pay for any room at any time of the year but not just yet. On my first post I will give you one of the best Vegas tips (or tricks if you) like for getting a free or nearly free room upgrade this is called the $20 trick which can also be used as the $50 trick or even the $100 trick if you are far richer than me. This Vegas trick can work at any hotel and is worth a shot the worst that can happen is you get what you have paid for. I will show you a top ten list of the hotels to try this at. Ok enough babble here is the Las Vegas $20 free room upgrade trick. Before you get to the check in desk place a folded $20 note between your credit card and your ID and ask the clerk if there are any free upgrades available for the period that you are there. Try to look for a youngish clerk as your odds are usually better with them than an older one and one at the end of the check in desk so that they are not overheard and be discreet. Some people feel you have a better chance with males and others females so it’s a bit of luck but young and friendly looking is a must. This works in most hotels some better than others but you must be discreet that is the key. For me this is the single best piece of value in Vegas for $20 for your stay you can get a room that is sometimes worth $100 more per night, its does not always work but often it does. I strongly advise that you do not rely 100% on this and ensure that if it fails you have booked a level of accommodation that you are happy to stay in. This Vegas trick has a slightly better chance of working if you are not staying on the weekend but either way it can have the same result which is a room worth far more than what you have paid Top Ten Hotels for the $20 Trick
