Margarito adamant he will not be a Victim to Cotto at MGM Grand

Antonio Margarito is adamant that he will not be added to Miguel Cotto’s growing list of world-class victims when the pair collide in a potential classic at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

WBA welterweight champion Cotto has established himself as one of the best and most feared fighters in the world with a string of sensational performances.

He has won all 32 of his professional bouts to date and last year racked up impressive victories over Zab Judah, whom he stopped in the eleventh round, and Sugar Shane Mosley.

However, Margarito, who claimed the IBF belt with a thrilling KO6 win over Kermit Cintron, is not afraid of his Puerto Rican foe and is in no doubt that he will prove a far more worthy adversary than either Judah and Mosley.

“I feel that I will be pressuring him a lot more,” Margarito said. “I have a lot more power and I can do a lot more things as far as power is concerned. And I know I have a bigger heart than both of those guys combined.

“I have waited a long time for this type of fight and I know that I am hungrier than he is and I want it more than he does and I’m going to go get it.”

Magarito claims to be well aware of the threat posed by Cotto but believes that it is he who holds all the aces – not least because he is in tremendous condition ahead of the fight.

“I have watched a lot of video of Cotto, but I have also seen him fight live since we have been on the same card quite a few times,” the Californian is quoted as saying by the Las Vegas Sun.

“I am not worried about what his weaknesses are. I am worried about what I need to do.

”But my confidence and my ability to win this fight will be because I have trained very well for this fight.”
